"Walk On" the title cut of Maren's debut CD is going to be
featured in an upcoming film called Sweetwater. It's an independent
film that will be at film festivals all over, and maybe picked up for
national distribution. Check out www.sweetwatermovie.com
for more info.
Maren has been accepted with a full scholarship to GRAMMY Camp, an
exclusive program for high school-age music students. She flies to
L.A. for nine days of intensive exposure to all aspects of the music
business, gets to tour the GRAMMY Foundation and absorb advice from
GRAMMY winners and nominees.
Maren competed and WON in 95.9 FM The Ranch's "Texas Shootout"
5 nights in May. Each night they pit one artist's song against another
and fans phone in votes for their favorite. Maren beat Derryl Dodd,
Aaron Watson, Colin Boyd and Keith Urban. Winners who make it 5 in a
row are retired.
QuickDFW, the handy little newspaper put out by the Dallas Morning
News, features Maren as Band of the Week in their paper (and on www.quickdfw.com)
the week of February 7.
Virgin Megastores has agreed to stock Maren's CD in their Grapevine
Mills and Dallas locations. Look for her listening post prominently
displaying "Walk On." Now anyone can listen to the entire CD
before buying!
Maren performed in her high school musical on November 3, 4 and 6,
thus the absence of dates on her music calendar. She is the only
freshman to garner a lead role in "Seussical the Musical,"
based on the stories of Dr. Seuss.
All tracks are finished. Mixing is underway. The rough mix is awesome
enough. Can't wait to hear the final mix. Mastering should be complete
by early September. First pressed CDs should be done by early October.
Rhythm tracks have been laid down in the studio by Dick Sims (Eric
Clapton, Bob Seger) on keyboards, Eddie Cantu (Willie, Bruce Robison)
on drums, Scott Boland (great session and live player!) on guitar, and
Maren's regulars Randy Langley and Eric Zukoski. Lloyd Maines (credits
too numerous to list, but he produced the last Dixie Chicks CD) put
down pedal steel and dobro recently.
Recording begins for Maren's first full-length CD begins in August!
Stephen Doster (Nancy Griffith, Double Trouble, Dr. John/Willie
Nelson, Stanely Smith etc.) will produce.
Maren made it to the finals of the B.W. Stevenson Songwriters'
Competition April 27 at Poor David's Pub. Although she didn't win, she
was one of only 6 to final. Congrats to Kristy Kruger and Josh
Weathers, who won first and second place.
Maren opened for legend Marty Stuart at the Horseman in Ft. Worth
March 13. Both put on a good show and Marty had Maren and crew on his
tour bus for some hospitality and great advice on the music biz.
Maren's has written or co-written around 10 songs which, along
with a cover song or two, will be on her upcoming debut CD. We're
deciding where and whom to record with right now.
We'd like to welcome Eric Z to Maren's band. Eric is playing
quite a few dates with Maren on standup bass. Drummer Tim Macon is
joining us for some choice performances with full band.
Maren's date opening for Gary P. Nunn on January 31st was a hit. She
received a standing ovation from the large crowd on hand. Never saw
one of those there before!
